Guidelines for Healthy Hips

Feet In  |  Feet Out  |  M - Postion

Moms ask us, “when will I know when it is time to let  their feet to extend out?” A good signal is when your baby is pushing off and trying to stand in the carrier. Newborns have a ‘stepping instinct’ that is activated when the soles of their feet come in contact with a surface.  Freeing their feet helps them relax. You can fold the skirt up over their exposed legs, or leave it down.  It’s up to you!

The 'M-Position'

Holds legs in the healthy hip M-Position recommended by the Hip Dysplasia Institute.

In the first weeks, when babies are still curled in the fetal position, they will be most comfortable with their legs tucked in the ‘nest’ of the carrier.

TINY BABY BOOST

(for newborns under 9 lb.) Fold the top edge of the front ‘wing’ down over your baby’s back and bum. This will boost your baby higher on your chest, and expose your baby’s face.

Safe Napping

Falling asleep with your baby in your arms isn't  safe unless you can be sure that when you wake up your baby is still heart to heart with you!

Safe Napping Guidelines:
・Prop yourself up at least 45 degrees (never flat).
・Lean back so your baby’s weight is resting on your body.
・Follow our Safe Baby Positioning Instructions.
・Always move your baby to the upright, mid-line position after nursing,

⚠︎ Warning: Not recommended for anyone taking medication that inhibits normal sleep/wake responses.

Summer Babywearing Tips

• You can wear your Nesting Days carrier in the safety of your home and indoors throughout the summer where the temperature is controlled and is between (68° to 75°).

• If you must go out on hot days, do so with caution. Keep your baby well hydrated with frequent feedings. Seek out the shade, and cool parts of the day. Duck into air conditioned spaces to cool down. Use baby-wipes for quick sponge-baths to cool off. Check your baby often for signs of overheating. Take frequent breaks.

• All carriers, including Nesting Days, trap body heat. Know the for signs of overheating: rapid heart rate, shallow breathing, panting, flushed face, too pale, fussy or not responsive.
