From the mom-to-be: Let’s set the scene: a cold bathroom, three pregnancy tests and my heart pounding out of my chest. There it was, that most anticipated moment: will the second pink line finally appear? Funny enough, I never thought I’d want to be a mom, until now. I entered my 30s feeling defeated and unlucky in love. Countless failed relationships later, I wondered if the tides would ever shift. Little did I know, they would! The last 3 years have been a whirlwind – I met a handsome fella who I truly adored, got engaged within a year, married 3 months later and shortly after, I was expecting!

My first thought: Wow, how did I get so lucky?! Minus a few backaches, I’ve got to say, pregnancy hasn’t been so bad. I haven’t experienced any morning sickness or had any complications. I’ve enjoyed it. I’ll admit however, I have many fears: will I be a good mother? will I be able to care for a newborn? will my ‘maternal instincts’ kick in? As a first-time mother to be, it can feel overwhelming at times. But this I know for sure: I’ll be just fine.As my due date nears, I realize what I want most for my baby girl. I want her to believe in her value and worth, to be caring and thoughtful towards others, but most importantly, I want her to love herself. I hope to be the type of mom that can instill those values in her.
